1 killed, 50 injured in Faridpur clash


Faridpur  – A man was killed and at least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy at Muralirchar village in Boalmari upazila on Sunday morning.Sub-inspector of Boalmari Police Station Shahidul Islam said the two groups — one led by Alim Biswas and another by Jafar Biswas — had been at loggerheads over establishing control over the area.Supporters of the two groups locked into a clash with sharp weapons and brick chips following their previous enmity at the village around 8:30am.At one stage of the clash, supporters of Alim Biswas hacked Salam Shikdar, one of the followers of Jafar Biswas, with a machete, leaving him dead on the spot.On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control.The injured people were whisked off to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Boalmari Sadar Hospital.Additional police have been deployed at the area to ward off further trouble, SI Shahidul added.
