10 policemen died in attacks by miscreants in 2014


A total of 102 on-duty members of Bangladesh Police died of sickness, road accidents or attacks by miscreants in 2014.
The deceased included 12 sub-inspectors(SIs), 12 ASIs, three inspectors, one ASP, one sergeant, one TSI (town sub-inspector), three ATSI, two female constables, two driver constables, one nayek, one traffic inspector (TI) and 63 constables.Sources at the Police Headquarters said 47 of the on-duty policemen died of various diseases in the 12 months of the last year while 45 others were killed in roads accidents.
Besides, four policemen were killed in attacks by miscreants, including robbers and muggers, one was killed in bomb attack, one was hacked to death, three were shot dead and one was lynched during the period in between January 1 and December 31 last year.
Meanwhile, the Police Headquarters will organise a programme to honour the family members of the deceased or slain cops at the Police Convention Hall, Ramna in the city on Sunday evening where State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan will speak as the chief guest while IGP will be a special guest. – Unb
