The government has announced September 11 (Sunday) as general holiday for the government employees to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha peacefully.With the holiday (September 11), the government employees will enjoy an six-day long Eid holiday to start form September 9 and will continue until September 14 this year.
The public administration ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard yesterday.
According to the notification, the government employees will have to work on September 15 instead of September 11.
On Sunday, the public administration ministry was sent a proposal to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) seeking approval of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to announce two days- September 11 and September 15 as general holiday to facilitate a smooth celebration of Eid and hassle free journeys on highways.
A senior minister told The Independent quoting the Prime Minister (PM) that the premier decided to announce September 11 as general holiday after discussing the matter with her cabinet colleagues at the Monday’s cabinet meeting, held at the secretariat.
“Most of the secretaries including the Cabinet Secretary advised the premier to allow only one day (September 11) as general holiday not two days-(September 11 and September 15),” he said.
“If the government is announce two days general holiday and ordered to work on September 17 and September 24 instead of the September 11 and September 15, most of the government employees may absent on September 17 (Saturday). That’s why, the authorities should announce only one day (September 11) as general holiday on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.
The government had facilitated a 9-day Eid vacation for public servants from July 1 to July 9, shifting July 4 workday to July 16.
