Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive rescued 12 Bangladeshi citizens, including five women and three children, while they were being trafficked to India through Putkhali border point here on Tuesday night.All the rescued are from different areas of Gopalganj district.Being tipped off that some Bangladeshi citizens were being trafficked to India through Putkhali border, a team of the border security force conducted a drive in the area and rescued five women, three children and four men around 10pm, said BGB sources.However, sensing the presence of the BGB personnel, the smugglers fled scene.
The detainees were handed over to Benaplole Port Police Station.Officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station Monir Hossain confirmed this saying a case was filed with his police station in connection with the incident.
The detainees will be produced before Jessore court on Wednesday. -UNB, Benapole (Jessore)
