Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued 35 people while being trafficked to India while the border force arrested five Indian nationals on the Putkhali border here on Wednesday night.
The rescued Bangladeshis include 14 women and three children.Lieutenant Colonel Mostafizur Rahman, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-23, said being tipped off, a team of BGB launched a drive in Charer Math area along the border and rescued the 35 Bangladeshis while they were being trafficked to India at night.
However, the human traffickers fled the scene after sensing the presence of the BGB team.
At the same time, the border force members arrested five Indian people in the area while they were trying to enter Bangladesh territory through the border.
The rescued Bangladeshi people hail from different areas of Narail, Bagerhat, Gopalganj and Khulna districts while the arrested Indians from West Bengal of North 24 Parganas district.
Later, the 40 were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.
They will be produced before a court today (Thursday), Apurba Hasan, officer-in-charge of the police station, said. – UNB
