Eighteen officers and members of Rab-3 were closed to the Rab Headquarters on Monday for their alleged controversial activities.
Director (Legal and Media Wing) of Rapid Actin Battalion (Rab) Headquarters Wing Commander ATM Habibur Rahman said that they were attached to the headquarters for ‘internal necessity’.Usually, Rab officers and members are attached to the headquarters from a battalion due to internal necessity or for their controversial activities.
Police sources said some of the Rab-3 members detained four people — Tanvir Ahmed, Md Sajib, Sohagh alias Rony Saha and Md Kalam — from Atish Dipanker Road under Mogdha Police Station in the capital in the early hours of May 14.
“The Rab members also recovered 260 Yaba tablets and Tk 37,8,81 from their possessions,” said inspector (investigation) of Moghda Police Station Mustafizur Rahman quoting the statement of the case filed by ASI Syed Mahmud of Rab-3 Khilgaon Camp.
Replying to a question, inspector Mostafiz said they were yet to crosscheck the information given by the four detainees as there was inconsistency between the information recorded in the first information report (FIR) of the case and that given by the arrested people.
Meanwhile, Rab headquarters protested the report on the news portal of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) titled ‘Now 18 Rab officials withdrawn on charge of misappropriating money’.
The protest letter signed by Wing Commander ATM Habibur Rahman termed the DMP news fabricated and motivated.
“Spreading brazen lies in the official website of a renowned and well-reputed law enforcement force involving members of another force not only tarnish the images of the forces but also seriously affect the mental strength and work motivation,” the Rab protest letter said.
Earlier in the day, the DMP’s news portal carried the news about the withdrawal of the 18 Rab officials. It, however, withdrew the news item showing reason that the news was inconsistence with their policy.
They claimed that they collected information on the news item from different news portals. – UNB
