Dhaka, July 11 – Officials of Customs intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport seized 19 more illegally imported firearms from the Air Cargo unit of the airport on Tuesday.With the seizure the today’s (Tuesday) illegally firearms, the number of total illegally imported firearms rose to 21. Earlier on Sunday the CIID team seized two contraband Walther PP pistols from the same Air Cargo unit.
Based on secret information, the CIID officials carried out a search operation inside the Strongroom-1 of the Air Cargo unit on Sunday last and identified the two illegally imported firearms (two Walther PP pistols) from a imported arms consignment containing total 58 firearms.
The CIID team again examined the remaining 56 firearms inside the strongroom-1 on Tuesday and identified 19 of those as illegally imported, said Director General of CIID Dr Moinul Khan.
The seized 21 firearms were brought from Italy along with other 37 firearms. According to the import policy, importing of old and unusable firearms are completely banned.
Members of different intelligence agencies and firearms specialists were present during examination of the imported firearms, Dr Moinul Khan said.
Among the total seized firearms, 16 are Walther PP pistols and fiver others HK-4 brand pistols. – News Desk
