2 ‘drug peddlers’ injured in Satkhira ‘gunfights’

Satkhira -Two alleged drug peddlers were injured in two separate incidents of ‘gunfight’ with police in Sadar and Debhata upazilas early Tuesday.In Sadar upazila, on secret information, a team of police, led by Sub-inspector Emdad Sheikh of Itagachha police outpost, launched a drive in Bejerdanga area early in the morning.Sensing the presence of police, a gang of drug peddlers hurled a bomb towards them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, which left drug peddler Bishwajit Sarkar, son of Narayan Sarkar, a resident of Madhumollardangi area, bullet-injured, said Sub-inspector Kamal Hossain of the Special Branch of Police, Satkhira.Police also recovered 100 pieces of Yaba tablet and several bottles of Phensidyl syrup from his possession.In Debhata, tipped off, a team of police launched a drive inside a brick field at Puspokati village early in the morning.Sensing the presence of police, a gang of drug peddlers hurled a bomb towards them, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, which left drug peddler Md Nuruzzaman, 24, son of Aminul Mollah, a resident of Baliadangi village, injured.
police also recovered some bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup and liquor from the spot.Nuruzzaman was accused in two smuggling cases with Debhata Police Station.However, two separate cases were filed in connection with the incidents.The injured were admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.(UNB)
