2 held over robbery attempt at Manikganj bank


Police arrested two alleged robbers while trying to commit robbery breaking open the vault of Exim bank Manikganj branch in the district town on Friday night.The arrestees were identified as Arif Hossain, 42, son of Abdul Khalek of Charmatta village in sadar upazila, and Shahinur Rahman, 35, son of Sayed Ali of Doulatpur village in Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka district.
Nur Mohammd Ansari, manager of the Exim bank Manikganj branch, said a gang of robbers, breaking open the main gate of the bank, swooped on the bank on the ground floor of a building on Shaheed Rafique Road in the town around 10:45 pm.Noticing the robbers invading the bank through close circuit cameras, the authorities informed the matter to police.Later a team of police rushed in and chased the robbers.Police arrested two robbers while the others managed to flee breaking the grill of the window.
However, the robbers could not break open the bank vault due to prompt action of police.The robbers damaged 10 close circuit cameras of the bank.Jakir Hossain, additional superintendent of police, visited the bank.Police also recovered some tools used for breaking the vault of the bank. -UNB, Manikganj
