Allegations of killing two more people and dumping their bodies into rivers have been brought against the members of Rapid Action Battalion-11 in the district. The Rab members picked up Hossain Showkat, a land property trader of Siddhirganj, and Tajul Islam, a clinic owner of Sonargaon, and murdered them before throwing their bodies into the rivers, the families of the victims said. They came up with the allegation during a human chain formed in front of Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office on Sunday noon. With tears-soaked eyes, the victims’ families demanded capital punishment for the accused Rab members, including three sacked Rab officials — Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana. Earlier on Saturday, family members of a local Awami League activist Mohammad Ismail, 42, alleged that the Rab-11 members pick up him and demanded Tk two crore for his release. Besides, family of Nazrul Islam, one of the victims of the recent seven murders, alleged that some Rab men killed the former city panel mayor in exchange for Tk six crores from suspects including city councilor Nur Hossain. Later, three Rab officials – Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad and Major Arif Hossain, Lt Commander MM Rana—were sent on forced retirement for their alleged involvement in the gruesome incident. The trio are now on police remand. Meanwhile, plain-clothes police detained Narayanganj City Corporation female councillor Jannatul Ferdous Nila from the city’s Hajiganj area on Sunday in connection with the much-talked-about seven murders. A team of Detective Branch of police picked up Nila, also a close aide of Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the seven-murder case, from in front of the Fire Service Station at Hajiganj around 6pm, said sources at the district police. She was returning to Siddhirganj by a microbus from the Circuit House after taking part in a mass hearing when the detectives detained her for interrogation. Nila earlier told media that Nur wanted to make her his mistress. He also gifted a private car worth Tk 35 lakh to her. Nila also divorced her husband as Nur threatened to kill him, she revealed. On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area. Hours into their abduction, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court, Chandan Kumar Sarker, and his driver were abducted while they were going to capital Dhaka. Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30. Besides, the body of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on May 1. – UNB
