2 suspected ‘robbers’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’


Dhaka – Two suspected robbers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Gobindagunia in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia early Saturday UNB news agency reported. Identities of the deceased could not be confirmed.The Officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station Kazi Jalal Uddin said on a tip-off that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery on Mirpur-Bheramara road in the area by placing logs, a team of police launched a drive there at about 12:30 am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire at them, prompting the police personnel to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
Two members of the robber gang were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while other members of the gang managed to flee from the scene.
Three policemen were also injured during the gunfight.
Police also recovered one pistol, one crude bomb and several sharp weapons from the scene.
