2 youths killed in city ‘gunfight’ with detectives


Dhaka – Two young men were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in the city’s Badda area early Friday. Officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station Kazi Wajed Ali said the two bullet-hit youths, aged between 25 and 30, were found lying after an exchange of fire with DB men at Aftabnagar.They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors pronounced them dead around 6:00am, said sub-inspector Abdul Quader of the police station. DB sources said the two slain youths might be Pichchi Alamin and Saddam who were involved in the killing of Banani recruiting agency owner Siddique Hossain Munshi. “We’re trying to verify whether they’re Alamin and Saddam, who directly took part in the killing of Siddique Hossain Munshi,” said Md Shahjahan, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of DB North Division.The law enforcers recovered two firearms and four bullets from the spot after the gunfight, he said. Earlier, briefing reporters at the DMP Media Centre on Wednesday, Monirul Islam, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, said five people, including Helal, Pichchi Alamin and Saddam, took part in the killing mission of the recruiting agency owner.DB police arrested Helal on Tuesday from Kalachandpur area at Gulshan in the city along with five firearms, which were used in the killing mission.Siddique Hossain Munshi, 50, owner of recruiting agency ‘Munshi Overseas’, was shot dead in his Banani office on November 14 last.
