Two thousand and 224 hartal days have been observed in Bangladesh in the last 7 decades in which 6 hundred and 55 people died and twenty five thousands injured.In a programme at Dhaka University Senate building on ‘Sat Dosoker hartal O bangladesh Er rajniti’ Ajoy Das gupta assistant editor of the Daily Somokal brought out the statistics yesterday.
While speaking on the occasion Ajoy Das Gupta Said that in the last 7 decades 605 days hartal was observed nationally and 619 as locally in which during the BNP and its alliance party’s term from 2001 to 2006 76 full days and 15 half days hartal have been observed and locally the number is 96 full days and 117 half days.
On the other hand from 2009 to 2015 during the awami league and it’s pro alliance term nationally 236 full days and 5 half days hartal have been observed and locally the number is 302 full days and 100 half days across the country.
He said that in the last 70 years a total of 655 people have died and twenty five thousands got injured and as well as Seventeen thousands got arrested during the hartal.
While defining the causes of hartal across the country Ajoy said that those hartals were observed both in different national and lacal issues in Bangladesh in which one thousand and 550 for political, 86 for economical, 323 for lacal and 264 days for other reasons.
He also said that from 2001 to 2015 Jamat 473 days, BNP 400 days and Awami league observed 3 days hartal.
While speaking on the occasion columnist Sayeed Abul Moksud said that politically hartal has a great significant as without hartal it was impossible to take place the language movement in 1952, education movement in 1962 and finally the liberation war of Bangladesh.
‘But this days hartal becomes a silly event’ he added.
Among others DU vice chancellor Prof. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Golam Sarower editor of the daily Somokal, Bodiul Alom Majumder secretray of SUJON (Su Shashon er jonna Nagorik), Prof MM Akash, and DU assistant Prof. Robayet Ferdous were present there.
