25 fishermen kidnapped in Sundarbans


Twenty-five fishermen were kidnapped by forest robbers from Kakrakhali canal of the Sundarbans under Shyamnagar upazila on Monday.
Seven of the victims were identified as Rafiqul, 38, Mazid, 28, Sannasi, 38, Kawsar, 55, Khokon, 25, Amirul, 28, and Farid, 35. They hail from different villages of Shyamnagar upazila.Fisherman Eman Ali, son of Amir Chand Gazi of Tangrakhali village in the upazila, said a gang of bandits belonging to notorious ‘Alim Bahini’ swooped on some fishermen while they were fishing in the Kakrakhali canal near the Mamunda River in deep forest in the morning.
The robbers kidnapped 25 fishermen and demanded Tk 4 lakh as ransom for their release.
The kidnappers threatened to kill them if their demand is not met by three days.
