2,500 lactating mothers get healthcare services


More than 2,500 lactating mothers along with their infants are getting healthcare services in the city for maintaining their sound health and to produce sufficient milk for their growing babies.
Department of Women Affairs is extending the services under its ‘Working Lactating Mothers Assistance Fund Beneficiaries Program’.District level officials concerned revealed this at a meeting held at its office conference hall in the city yesterday. Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury attended and addressed the meeting as chief guest with Shahnaj Begum, District Women Affairs Officer, in the chair.Deputy Director of Department of Family Planning Dr Nasima Akhtar, General Secretary of Lions Eye Hospital Md Ali Kamal and Assistant Director of Human Resource Development Training Center Ajgar Ali also spoke.The speakers said the lactating mothers need special care, more nutrition and higher caloric than other women as they need more significant quantity of energy as the mother have pivotal role to bring up the newborn babies with sound health, mind and attitude.To ensure healthy nutritional status during pregnancy and breastfeeding, most of the foods the mothers consume each day should be high in vitamins and minerals.He emphasized the need for proper physical and mental development of children for building a healthy and mentally sound nation and viewed that ensuring fundamental rights of the children has become indispensable for attaining the cherished goal.The chief guest said the present government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing multifarious development programmes for building the children as competent and physically and mentally sound. -BSS, Rajshahi
