3 BD peacekeepers killed in Mali blast

Three Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and four others injured as an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists exploded in Mali on Sunday.

A clash took place between the Bangladeshi peacekeepers working in the UN mission in Mali and terrorists during an operation when the peacekeepers successfully retaliated the criminals, said an ISPR release.

When the Bangladeshi peacekeepers were returning to their camp on completion of their operation, they were attacked by the terrorists again, it said, adding that they prevented the terrorists with courage.

However, an IED planted by the terrorists went off at one stage of the clash, killing three Bangladeshi peacekeepers on the spot and injuring four others.

The deceased are Sergeant Altaf, EME (Dinajpur), Lance Corporal Zakirul, Artillery (Netrakona) and Sepoy Monwar, East Bengal (Barisal) while the injured are Major Jadeed, Infantry (Dhaka), Corporal Mohim, Infantry (Noakhali), Sepoy Sabuj, Infantry (Naogaon) and Sepoy Sarwar, Infantry (Jessore).

The injured were shifted to Gao city for better treatment, the ISPR release said, adding that other Bangladeshi peacekeepers in Mali remain safe.
