Dhaka, 23 Jan – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Tuesday sent three people including two officials of the Education Ministry to the jail on the charges of graft.The accused persons – Motaleb Hossain, Personal Officer to Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Md Nasiruddin, upper division assistant (UDA) of the Ministry and Lakehead Grammar School owner Khaled Hasan Motin.
Ziarul Islam, Magistrate of the CMM Court passed the order on Tuesday after hearing the case. Earlier, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case SI Firoz produced the accused before the court and filed a petition to send them to the jail. Earlier, on Monday, a case was filed against them.
Monirul Islam Mrida of Detective Branch of Police of South Division filed the case against them on various charges, including taking bribe. On Sunday night, detectives of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the three, who were reportedly ‘missing’ from different areas of the city. – Special Correspondent
Qazi Faruque imprisoned, asked to hand over office
Dhaka, 23 Jan – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court yesterday sentenced Qazi Faruque, an ousted Chairman of Proshika, to one month’s imprisonment in civil prison for violating its directives of 2009.
The High Court on August 10, 2009 ruled that Proshika will be run as usual by its present governing body saying that Qazi Faruque Ahmed is now admittedly out of the office for certain reasons.
The same day, it had directed the concerned of Proshika to maintain status quo about holding the office of the chairman.
On Monday, the High Court bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah also directed Qazi Faruque to handover the position of Proshika chairman’s office to its Chairman Advocate MA Wadud and to submit a report to it complying with the order within 15 days. – Special Correspondent
