3 jailed for felling trees illegally in Joypurhat


A mobile court here on Friday sentenced three men to different jail terms for cutting government trees illegally in Panchbibi upazila.The convicts are Abdul Kader, 36, of Sararpara village, Abdul Gaffar, 35, of Baropukuria village and Azizur Rahman, 42, of Horenda village of the upazila.Of them, Azizur Rahman and Abdul Gaffar were jailed for two months and fined Taka 2,000 each, in default, to suffer one month more in prison while Abdul Kader was sentenced to seven days and fined Taka 1,000, in default, to suffer one more day in jail.Officer in charge of Panchbibi Police Station Abu Hena Mohammad Mostafa Kamal said a patrol team of police arrested them while they were cutting trees illegally on a road on Thursday night and they were produced before the mobile court led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nur Uddin Al Faruque, who delivered the verdict on Friday. -BSS, Joypurhat
