3 ‘robbers’ injured in Satkhira ‘gunfight’


At least three alleged members of a robber gang were injured in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Chhoyghoria in Sadar upazila early Monday. The injured were identified as Polash Rahman, 35, son of Sheikh Afazuddin under Patkelghata Police Station in Satkhira, Alamgir Hossain, 36, of Dhulihar village in the district sadar upazila, and Matiur Rahman, 38, son of Motaleb Hossain of Mirsisi village in Dumuria upazila of Khulna district. Officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station Enamul Haque said being tipped off that a robber gang was trying to commit robbery in a bus in the area early in the morning, a team of police launched a drive to arrest them. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight that left three robbers –-Polash, Alamgir and Matiur –- injured in their legs. The three injured men were taking treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital being under police custody. Injured Polash and Alamgir alleged that a team of plainclothes police picked up them five days back and police fired targeting them after tying their eyes with ribbons in Chhoyghoria area early today. – UNB
