3rd security dialogue Tuesday:‘US wants stable, democratic B’desh’

Bangladesh and the United States (US) will hold ‘Security Dialogue’ here on Tuesday that reflects the growing defence relationship between the two countries and shared commitment to peace and prosperity in the region.
This will be the third dialogue on security issues between the two countries which is aimed at enhancing partnerships in peacekeeping, counterterrorism, and security cooperation, as well as joint military exercises and exchanges.Tom Kelly, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of State, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, will lead the US delegation while Mustafa Kamal, Secretary (Bilateral) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will lead Bangladesh side to the dialogue, said an official at the Foreign Ministry.
Atul Keshap, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of State, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, and US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan Mozena will also join the dialogue.
The first such dialogue was held in Dhaka on April 19, 2012 while the second one in Washington in April, 2013.
Meanwhile, Atul Keshap met State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam at the latter’s office in the afternoon and discussed issues of mutual interest.
After the meeting, Keshap said he came here to attend the ‘Security Dialogue’ between the US and Bangladesh mentioned that the dialogue is an effective forum for exchanging views on security issues. -UNB
The United States (US) wants to see a bright, prosperous, stable, democratic Bangladesh with the participation of all people, said a US official here on Sunday.
Atul Keshap, Deputy Assistant Secretary for South Asia, of the US Department of State, made the comment while making a brief statement after a meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam at the Foreign Ministry.
He said the US will work with hands in hands with all the parties, people of all walks of life and the government here to that end.
Keshap, now here to attend the third security dialogue to be held on Tuesday, also said the US is very ambitious about its partnership with Bangladesh. –bdnews24.com
