4 nabbed over Tavella’s murder


Police on Monday claimed a major breakthrough over the Sep 28 murder of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella, saying they have detained some of those involved in the killing.The four detained are ‘Russel’ aka Vagne Rusel, ‘Rubel’ aka Shooter Rubel, ‘Russel’ aka Chakti Russel and ‘Sharif’.Four suspects have been detained over the murder, including three ‘who were involved in the killing’, Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam told greenwatchbd.com.Monitoring group SITE had said that the Middle Eastern radical group Islamic State have claimed responsibility for Tavella’s murder—and of Japanese national Kunio Hoshi as well.But Bangladesh government has denied that claim and said there was no visible presence of Islamic State in the country.

On 28 September, Cesare Tavella, 50, project manager of PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, on Road 90 of Gulshan-2, was shot by some miscreants at Gulshan in Dhaka.Later, he died from excessive loss of blood while being moved to nearby United Hospitals.
