The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Sunday directed police to submit the probe report on June 18 in a case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and three others for the deaths of 42 burn victims during the blockade sponsored by the 20-party alliance early this year.
The report was scheduled to be submitted yesterday (Sunday) but the police failed while Magistrate Maruf Hossain of the CMM Court passed order.Other three accused persons are BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, Professor Emajuddin Ahmed and BNP Chief’s adviser Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury.
According to the case statement, 42 people died till February 1 in arson attacks across the country after the blockade was announced by Khaleda Zia on January 5.
The complainant of the case AB Siddique, President of pro-government organization Jananetri Parishad, claimed that the government faced losses worth crores during the blockade and frequent general strikes were imposed that time.
The complainant had lodged the case with the CMM on February 2 while the court ordered the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station to investigate the incident of the case. – Court Correspondent
