5 Bangladeshis killed in Riyadh road accident while returning from Umrah

Dhaka – Five Bangladeshis, including four members of a family, were killed in a road accident near the town of Umm Al-Jamajem in Saudia Arabia’s capital Riyadh on Saturday.Dr. Sarwar Alam, labour counselor of the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, confirmed the incident to Arab News on Sunday.The deceased were identified as Abdul Aziz, his 12-year-old son Arafat, 4-year-old daughter Ariya, mother-in-law Zobeda Khanam, and driver Masud.The four members of the family are from Feni district, said Sarwar Alam.The accident took place at around 4:45am on their way to Hafar Al-Batin in the Eastern Province of Riyadh after a week’s stay in Makkah and Madinah for performing Umrah, he added.
The diplomat also told Arab News that the children and driver died on the spot, while Aziz and his mother-in-law succumbed to their injuries at Al Artawiyah Hospital in Al-Artawiyah town, adjacent to the accident site.The only survivor of the accident was Aziz’s wife, who is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Riyadh.The Bangladesh embassy has sent a team to Hafr Al-Batin to look after the interests of the victims. The mission is also monitoring the condition of the injured.UNB news agency
