5 Chinese nationals held for distributing relief among Rohingyas

Members of Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) on Sunday arrested five Chinese citizens and two Bangladeshis for distributing relief at a Rohingya camp in Teknaf upazila without permission of the administration.The arrest came to light on Monday when they were handed over to police.
Two Bangladeshi arrestees were identified as Moulvi M Shafiullah, director of Azaz Bin Malek Madrasah of Teknaf, and Jamil Taher, a student of Islamic University, Chittagong.
Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Abdul Mazid said the five Chinese citizens along with the two Bangladeshi nationals were distributing relief materials among the Rohingyas at Ledha Unregistered Rohingya Camp in Teknaf on Sunday afternoon.
However, they created a chaotic situation while collecting the relief items.
On information, a BGB team went there and brought the situation under control.
Later, the BGB men arrested the Chinese and Bangladeshi nationals for distributing the relief without permission of the district administration.
They also seized Tk 15.84 lakh, US$ 1,900, Yuan 2,600 and 16 credit cards from the Chinese citizens.
The arrestees were handed over to Teknaf Police Station around 3pm on Monday, the OC added.
