A five-member probe panel has been formed to look into Thursday’s gun attack on a Shia mosque at Haripur village in Shibganj upazila that left a person dead and three others injured.Police super Asaduzzaman constituted the investigation committee, headed by additional police super Arifur Rahman Mondal, on Sunday.
The other members of the probe body include senior assistant police supers of Sadar and A circles, and officers-in-charge of district Detective Branch and Shibganj Police Station.
Contacted, the committee chief said they have started their work to unearth the mystery behind the attack.
Meanwhile, police were interrogating three people who were placed on remand on Saturday.
Anwar Hossain, 48, a former army man and a resident of Majhihatta village in the upazila and Jewel Miah, 25, of Harpur village were put on a seven-day remand each while Shamsul Alam, 60, principal of Molamgari Emdadul Ulum Qawmi Madrasah of the upazila, was put on a five-day remand.
Police arrested Anwar and Jewel from different places of the district on Friday morning in connection with the attack while a DB team in another drive arrested Shamsul from his house with his son Abu Hasan, 24, on the same day.
Besides, Shia devotees offered prayers at the mosque on Sunday, three days after the incident.
On Thursday evening, a group of 4-5 unidentified gunmen stormed the mosque and opened fire on the devotees while they were offering their maghrib prayers, leaving four of them, including its muezzin Moazzem, injured with bullets. Later, Moazzem succumbed to his injuries.
