6 Bangladeshis back home after serving jail in India

Six Bangladeshi people, including two females, returned home through Benapole check post on Wednesday after serving two years’ imprisonment in an Indian jail.Indian police handed them over to Benapole immigration police at night.The returnees were identified as Jesmin Akter,16, Asma Akter,17, Mamin Uddin,25, Tariqul Islam,24, Liton Ali,27, and Baddu Miah,40.All of them hail from different parts of Cox’s Bazar, Kushtia and Bagerhat districts.Officer-in-charge of Benapole check post immigration police Aslam Khan said a team of Indian police had arrested the six from Kerala Rail Station area for doing job there illegally.Afterwards, they were sent to Kerala central jail where they were awarded two years’ jail term.Upon completion of the jail term, they were later kept in a shelter centre there.The Indian government has returned them following repeated requests the Bangladesh home ministry made through sending several letters.They were sent back to Bangladesh through a special representative of the Indian government.Indian immigration police handed over the Bangladeshis to Benapole immigration police on Wednesday night. -UNB, Benapole
