HC orders Fakhrul’s admission to BBMSU Hospital


The High Court yesterday asked the authorities concerned to admit BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University immediately for his medical treatment.
In response to a writ petition filed by Fakhrul’s wife Rahat Ara Begum, the vacation bench of the HC comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order.Rahat Ara filed the petition on Monday seeking HC directive on the prison authorities for admitting Fakhrul to BSMMU or Birdem hospital for proper treatment as her husband has been suffering from various diseases including diabetes and heart complications.
On 6 January, plainclothes police arrested Fakhrul as he came out of National Press Club after about 25 hours of stay there.
Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon, one of the counsels for Fakhrul, told reporters that Fakhrul was detained from the Press Club on January 5 and he was shown arrested in seven vandalism and arson cases. Fakhrul has been in jail since his arrest, he added.
Among seven cases, three were filed over violence against the senior BNP leader with the Paltan police while another was filed with Motijheel police and the rest of other filed in various police stations in the city, according to his counsel.
However, Fakhrul has secured bail in one. He is now at Kashimpur Jail-2 in Gazipur, he added. – Staff Reporter
