At least ten people including a journalist and the OC of Chokoria Police Station were injured in a clash between police and Sramik League-Jubo League activists at Chiringa Bus Station in Chokoria municipality on Thursday.
Police and locals said the clash started around 5pm as an elder of the locality was protesting the beating of a footpath fruit vendor and his minor boy by a police officer.At one point of the protest, police and the activists of the local units of Sramik League-Jubo Leage exchanged heated words, leading to a spate of chase and counter-chases with both sides firing at each other.
Officer-in-charge (investigation) of Chokoria Police Station Kamrul Azam, journalist Zahed Chowdhury, Jubo League leader Jahangir Hossain, Shramik League leader Jahirul Islam, Shainik League leader Khalilullah and seven others were injured with bullet splinters.
Confirming the incident, OC (investigation) Kamrul said the clash took place over ‘a trifling matter’.
Police are in discussions with the leaders of the ruling party’s local units so that such incidents do not take place again, he added.- UNB
