7 killed 24 hurt in Ashulia bank branch dacoity bid

At least seven people, including a bank manager and a robber, were killed and 24 others injured during a daring attempt of robbery in a branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd at Kathgora, Ashulia on Tuesday. The deceased included the bank manager, two customers, a local grocery shop owner, a security guard of the bank and a robber.
Five of the deceased were identified as bank manager Waliullah, two customers—Zillur Rahman, Palash, shop owner Manir Hossain and Jamir Hossain.
Mostafa Kamal, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, said a gang of 15-20 robbers entered the bank around 1 pm. Holding the bank staff and customers hostage at gunpoint, the robbers asked the manger to give them the key of the vault.
As the bank manager refused to give them the key, the robbers opened fire on the people at the bank and stabbed them indiscriminately, leaving 30 injured.
The injured were rushed to Enam Medcial College Hospital where doctors declared five people, including the bank manager, dead.
Of the injured, Jamir who was undergoing treatment at the medical succumbed to his injuries around 7:50pm.
Meanwhile, the bank staff and local people caught one of the robbers and gave him a good thrashing, leaving him dead on the spot. – UNB
