Satkhira, Oct 2 (UNB) – Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 70 fishermen from the Mother River area in the Sundarbans under Satkhira
range on Wednesday evening, several hours after they were kidnapped by pirates for ransom.
Operations officer at Mongla Coast Guard Lt Commander Atiqur Rahman said members of notorious ‘Alim Bahini’ kidnapped the fishermen from a
place 30 km off the Koikhali Station in the morning.
On information, a team of coastguards, led by petty officer Nasir, conducted a drive and rescued the fishermen from the Mother River
along with 26 trawlers in the evening, he said.
However, no one was arrested in this connection as the pirates fled the scene sensing the presence of the force.
The rescued fishermen hail from Shyamnagar of Satkhira and Koyra of Khulna. – UNB
