70 shops burn down in Laxmipur fire


At least 70 shops were gutted by a fire that  broke out at a local market at Alexandar Bazar in Ramgati uapzila early Saturday.Quoting locals, police said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a jewellery shop around 1 am and soon engulfed 69
adjoining shops in the area.On information, three fire fighting units from Sadar, Ramgati and Noakhali district rushed in and extinguished the fire after five hours of frantic efforts.Affected shop owners claimed that the extent of the loss caused by
the fire is about Tk 30 crore.Being informed, Additional Deputy Commissioner (tax) Kongkon Chakma, assistant superintendent of police (circle) Mohammad Nasim Mia and Ramgati UNO Delwar Hossain visited the spot. -UNB, Laxmipur
