Defamation report submission against Tarique, Fakhrul Sept 19

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Sunday deferred the date for submission of report to September 19 in the defamation case filed against BNP Senior Vice President Tareque Rahman and Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for making “derogatory” remarks against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.Magistrate Amit Kumar Dey of the CMM Court passed the order fixing the new date as the report was not submitted on Sunday. However, on March 5, the CMM Court fixed April 30 to submit the report and the date was again deferred to August 30 for submission of the report.
On September 8, last year, AB Sidddique, President of pro-Awami League organization, Bangladesh Jono Netri Parishad lodged the case with the CMM Court while the court ordered the Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Police Station in the city to investigate into the allegations of the case and submit the inquiry report by October 20 of the year.
The complainant of the case alleged that at a discussion on September 2, 2014, Tareque, who has been staying in London since 2008, claimed Ziaur Rahman as the country’s first President. The complainant also alleged that on September 5 of that year, BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul said Bangabandhu ended his March 7, 1971 speech saying “Joy Pakistan” and did not make any announcement for the independence of the country.   – Special Correspondent
