United Nations, Mar 28 (AP/UNB) — Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have given $930 million to U.N. humanitarian efforts in Yemen as a war between a Saudi-led military coalition and Yemen’s Houthi rebels enters its fourth year.Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman presented the previously pledged donation Tuesday to U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Guterres thanked Prince Mohammed for the contribution to alleviating what the U.N. calls the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with 22 million people needing aid. Guterres added that ultimately, “the solution is political.”
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said the prince and the U.N. leader “had a very productive and comprehensive meeting.”
He said they talked about avoiding foreign intervention in Yemen, particularly from Iran.
