'Abduction attempt' on ASK director

‘Abduction attempt’ on ASK director

A group of plainclothes men allegedly tried to abduct the director of ‘Ain o Salish Kendra’ (ASK) from the capital on Thursday, the rights group said.
ASK made the claim within 24 hours of its demand to ban plainclothes operations by law enforcers in view of the Narayanganj multiple murders.
The rights group’s officials said Nur Khan ran into its office to avoid ‘abduction’.Sultana Kamal, ASK executive director, believes Thursday’s incident was a planned attempt to abduct the man who directs investigation and documentation unit.
The group’s office is located in Mohammadpur. Nur Khan was on a rickshaw when he noticed that a white microbus was following him, said ASK information officer Abu Ahmed Faijul Kabir.
“Khan ran to the office as the microbus neared his rickshaw and opened its door,” he said adding that police had been informed.
Khan has not come out of the office since. He filed a police complaint on Apr 20 fearing for his security.
Mohammadpur police OC Wazed Ali said it was unclear whether it was an abduction attempt.
He said Khan returned to ASK office as he saw a ‘suspicious’ microbus.
“But he didn’t say whether anyone had tried to force him into the vehicle or called him,” said Ali.-bdnews24.com
