Disband RAB for reported involvement in abduction, killing: Khaleda

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday demanded disbanding of elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) as, she said, they are involved in killing, forced disappearance and abduction across the country.
“The RAB was formed to ensure security of the people. They had done good works then. But the government is using them in political mission. Now they have become involved killings, enforced disappearances and abduction. They are kidnapping opposition leaders and activists and carrying out repression on them. So we demand immediate disbandment of the force,” she said while talking to reporters as she visited the family members of missing BNP leader Sajedul Islam at Tejgaon in the city. Sajedul, the general secretary of Ward No-38 of city unit of BNP, was reported suddenly missing on Sunday.The former premier alleged that the government is using the RAB in carrying our killing, enforced disappearance and abduction. She termed the government illegal and called upon them to stop killing, enforced disappearance and abduction.
Khaleda also demanded return of all the missing people including the party leaders and activists. She said the family members of missing people believe that their near and dears one are still alive so government should return back them to their families.
The BNP chairperson went to the Shahinbagh residence of Sajedul Islam Sumon at about 8:15pm and talked to the family members of the missing BNP leader. Khaleda expressed her sympathy to the family members of Sajedul.
She also symphathised with family members of seven other missing city BNP leaders Zahidul Karim Tanvir, Kawser, Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Masum, Majharul Islam Rasel and Asaduzzaman Rana, Al Amin and Adnana Chowdhury.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members—Toriqul Islam and Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman, Sadeque Hossain Khoka,, Abdus Salam and Ward president Ainul Islam Chanchal, among others, were present on the occasion. – Staff Reporter
