Achieving 100pc sanitation coverage by 2015 stressed

Speakers at a function here on Thursday stressed the need for achieving 100 per cent sanitation coverage rate by 2015 to ensure a better and disease-free healthy society for all.
“Importance should be given to create much awareness among the people particularly the rural ones about the use of sanitary latrines and safe
drinking water and to follow hygienic rules to attain the cherished goal,” they said.They said this at an evaluation meeting jointly organised by district
administration and Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) at the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) here on the celebration of
Sanitation Month-2013 in cooperation with Policy Support unit of Local Government Division.Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jahurul Islam Rohel addressed the function as the chief guest and additional Police Super Mosarrof Hossain was present as the special guest while deputy director of local government section of DC office Dr. Mallick Anwar Hossain Khan presided over the meeting.The latest situation of sanitation in the district was presented by executive engineer of DPHE SM Halim Uddin and said the sanitation coverage rate here is 88.35 per cent while the coverage rate in last year was 82.35 per cent.Speaking on the occasion, DC Jahurul Islam Rohel underscored the need for turning the sanitation campaign into a social movement to achieve 100 per cent sanitation target by 2015 declared by the government.He also sought cooperation of all including the local government bodies, the NGOs and other development partners to make the sanitation target a grand success within stipulated time. -BSS, Gaibandha
