Adhunik’s anti-tobacco discussion in city Thursday


Dhaka- A discussion programme will be held at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) VIP Lounge in the city at 10am on Thursday, marking the World No Tobacco Day-2017 with WHO theme for the year ‘Tobacco threat to development’.Adhunik (We Prevent Smoking), a national anti-tobacco organisation, in collaboration with another advocacy group will organise the event highlighting the campaign designed to build awareness among the public and the stakeholders against the widespread consumption of tobacco that constitutes not only a grave health hazard but also a threat to overall development, said a press release on Wednesday.Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry Dr M Mozammel Haque Khan will speak on the occasion as the chief guest.Senior Secretary of the Commerce Ministry Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Law and Justice Division Secretary Abu Saleh Sk Md Zahirul Haque, Additional Secretary of the Education Ministry M Mohiuddin and Additional Secretary of the Home Ministry Dr Rakhal Chandra Barman Khan will be present as special guests.Presided over by Adhunik President and UNB Chairman Amanullah Khan, the meeting will also be addressed by Iftikhar Ahmed Islam, Adhunik Secretary General and Editor of Tobacco News, Dr Nina Islam, Social Welfare Secretary; and Advocate Abdul Jabbar, Executive Editor of Adhunik, and senior member of the organisation Ali Niamat.The discussion will be preceded by a rally condemning tobacco and drug use to be brought out from in front of the Jatiya Press Club around 9:00am.UNB news agency
