Militants have attacked a heavily-fortified international compound on the outskirts of the Afghan capital, Kabul, security sources say.The attack started when a car exploded at the gate of the compound, known as Green Village, which houses international diplomats and military contractors.
A woman and up to four children in a car that was passing were killed.
Security guards then exchanged gunfire with insurgents, who were overpowered.
Some reports say the militants managed to get inside the compound.
Military officials said the explosion outside the compound destroyed vehicles belonging to international forces.
There are no reports of any international casualties.
The attack began when a suicide bomber in a car detonated explosives as a foreign convoy was leaving the Green Village.
Most of the residents are contractors working as security guards for international agencies.
Green Village was last attacked by a car bomb in May 2012, killing eight. – BBC News
