AL avoiding polls fearing forfeiture of security deposits: BNP

BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said that the ruling Awami League is not holding elections as the are afraid of forfeiture of seturity deposits of their candidates.
“They (Awami League) know it well that if they come to elections, their candidates will face defeat and lose their security deposits,” he said while addressing a workshop at the Institute of Engineers Bangladesh. Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal organised the workshop with its president Nure Ara Safa in the chair.BNP joint general secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury and Prof. Dilara Chowdhury were among other spoke on the occasion.
The BNP leader alleged that the AL is snatching all achievements at gun point.
He said the AL also wants to establish one-party rule in the country again by sacrificing the democratic system in a bid to illegally and unethically cling to power.
Mirza Fakhrul called upon the people to organise mass-movement in a bid to force the government to call a fresh election with the participation of all political parties.
“There is no alternative to movement to force the government to quit,” he added.
He called upon the party leaders and activists to get united by shunning the differences among them.
The BNP spokesperson condemned the issuance of warrant of arrest against party senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman and demanded immediate withdrawal of the case filed against him.
He termed Tarique Rahman as a popular and prospective leader of the youth generation and said on his arrival thousands of people would flood the airport and the government would be isolated.
Fakhrul accused the AL of carrying out propaganda to establish the BNP as a fundamentalist and old party to mislead the people.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Dr Jafrullah Chowdhury and Prof Dilara Chowdhury, among others, also addressed the function.
Meanwhile, addressing a discussion meeting BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy said the government is fearing of its future and suffering from panic of death.
“The government will fall through a small movement,” he said while addressing a meeting organised by Bangladesh Labour Party at Jatiya Press Club.
The BNP leader said it would be difficult to find out the ruling party people if a one-month movement is organised.
“They (AL) will sit across the table if they are given assurance that they won’t be repressed if another party goes to power,” he said.
Presided over by Mostafizur Rahman Iran, chairman of the organisation, the meeting was also addressed by Joynal Abdin Farooque, Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, Tajul Islam and Hamdullah Al Mehdi. – Staff Reporter
