AL move to removee intra-party feuds before next JS election

Dhaka – The ruling Awami League has taken a new initiative to tame the internal feud being alive across the country in a bid to make the party stronger, smarter and dynamic ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in 2019.
The party will summon the districts leaders at party president Sheikh Hasina’s political office at Dhanmondi in this month (April) to resolve prevailing internal feud of the party.“We will sit with leaders of four districts where internal feud being alive, within this month,” AL general secretary Obadul Quader told reporters on Wednesday after a meeting of the secretariat.
“The central body will sit with Chuadanga on April 23, Jessore on 24, Sathkhira on 25 and Nilphamari on April 27,” he said.
The AL spoke person said that the party wants to see an inclusive parliamentary election in the country with the participation of all political parties, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
“We want to see an inclusive election with participation of all parties. We hope that BNP will also participate in the polls,” Quader said.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, also turned down BNP’s demand for holding the next polls under an election time supportive government as there is no existence of government in the constitution.
“The next polls will be held as per constitution,” he said.
The AL general secretary said the Election Commission will conduct the next polls and the government will just perform routine work during the polls.
About deployment of army during the national polls, he said that the decision of deployment of army will depend on the decision of EC.
Hinting at an election commissioner who has been appointed from the list of BNP, he said that BNP has a representative in the commission but there is none of the AL.
Quader also termed BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s recent visit to flood-affected area as a political game.
He alleged that BNP always tries to show excuse for their failures.
“They show excuse when face debacle in polls. They hadn’t shown any excuse about Comilla City Corporation polls as they achieved victory,” he added.
He said that AL won Narayanganj polls as party was united but faced debacle in Comilla as party leaders were not united.
The meeting also decided to send a team of AL, led by its joint secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, to flood-affected Sunamganj and Netrakona today.
AL leaders Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Ahmad Hossain, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Abdus Sobhan Golap, Afzal Hossain, among others, were present. – Staff Reporter
