AL observes Sheikh Hasina’s 71st birth anniversary

Dhaka – The ruling Awami League and its affiliated organisations on Thursday observed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 71st birthday by organising various humanitarian events and activities and discussions on her life and achievements. Sheikh Hasina is the president of AL.On this day in 1947, Sheikh Hasina, the eldest of the five children of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Begum Fazilatunnesa, was born at Tungipara of Gopalganj in Faridpur district.
This year there were no cultural events marking her birthday, only milad and doa mahfils in the capital city and in different parts of the country were held due to the Rohingya crisis.
Special prayers were offered at the country’s national mosque Baitul Mokarram marking the occasion. Besides, special prayers were also held at temples, churches, pagodas and other religious places across the country were held seeking divine blessings for good health and long life of the premier, who is now in the United States in connection with the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.
The party general secretary started the party president’s birthday programmes by distributing foods and Rickshaws and Vans among the poor people in front of the Dhanmondi party office yesterday morning.
Later he joined the Milad mahfil and voluntary blood donation programme organized by Dhaka City South Jubo League marking the birthday of the Prime Minister.
Speaking at the chief guest at the event, Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister termed the Prime Minister as ‘Light House of the World Humanity’.
“Hasina proved herself that she is the lighthouse of the world humanity by providing shelter to the Rohingyas who fled from the Rakhine state of Myanmar to Bangladesh due to persecution,” he said.
He said the five-point proposal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resolve the ongoing Rohingya crisis was praised by the international communities and forums.
Meanwhile, a doa mahfil was held at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Ganabhaban after Asr prayers yesterday marking her 71st birthday. On the occasion, a special munajat was offered seeking good health and long life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Prayers were also offered seeking early recovery of Sheikh Hasina who underwent a successful gallbladder surgery in Washington on September 25.
Besides, prayers were offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs of the August 15 massacre as well as continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country. Officials and employees of Ganabhaban and the Prime Minister’s Office attended the doa mahfil.
Meanwhile, the marking the AL president birthday the Dhaka city unit AL organized a discussion on her eventful life at the Institution of Engineers in the city where the party’s central leaders including its general secretary Obaidul Quader spoke among others. – Staff Reporter
