Annisul announced Aminbazar-Shyamoli as free from illegal parking

In another soothing step to ease nagging traffic congestion in the city, Dhaka North City Corporation has announced the Aminbazar-Gabtali-Kalyanpur-Shyamoli road free from illegal parking. The announcement was made at a programme at the Gabtali inter-district bus terminal on Tuesday.

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan attended the programme as the chief guest.

Announcing the road stretching from Aminbazar to Shyamoli via Gabtali and Kalyanpur free of illegal parking with effect from January 1, DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq said the step was taken to reduce traffic jam in the city.

He said if the vehicles are not parked along the road, it would not create any problem for the transport workers. “It’s the responsibility of owners to ensure where to park their vehicles. When they get registration for their vehicles, the authorities don’t assure them that the government would provide their parking places,” he said.

Issuing a note of warning, Annisul said those who are running business occupying spaces inside the Gabtali bus terminal must vacate the places within seven days.

In his speech, the shipping minister asked the local sand and coal traders to free the walkways on Beribandh (embankment) of the Turag River near the Gabtali bus terminal from illegal encroachment within the next three days.

“There’re specific spaces allotted near the embankment for running coal and sand trading, but you (businessmen) have occupied the walkways and are running your business illegally there. If you don’t vacate the places within the next three days, you’ll have to face fine or jail,” he said.

Shajahan Khan also asked the illegal occupants to remove their structures from Gabtali landing station (launchghat for Tongi-Sadarghat waterway route) within three days.

He urged the transport owners and workers not to park their vehicles on streets.

Among others, local MP Aslamul Hoque, general secretary of Bangladesh Transport Owners’ Association and president of Truck-Covered Van Owners’ Association Rostam Ali, general secretary of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Malik Samity Khandoker Enayet Ullah, local councillor Abul Hossain and convener of Gabtali enter-district bus terminal Mofijul Hoque spoke at the programme.

Earlier on December 10, the DNCC announced Tejgaon industrial area, Tejgaon truck stand and Mohakhali bus stand free from illegal parking.
