Another mild tremor shakes Bangladesh

Dhaka – A mild earthquake jolted Dhaka and other districts of Bangladesh on Tuesday morning.
The earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale was felt at 8:11am, Met office sources said. The epicentre of the earthquake was Myanmar, 409 km east of Dhaka’s earthquake observatory.
Earthquakes of mild to moderate intensity are felt across Bangladesh at intervals every year. Scientists say this is because the country is close to geological faultlines that release energy from the Earth’s core triggering the tremors and quakes.
In the past major earthquakes of 8 on the richter scale hit the country with epicentres only 50 kilometres away from the border. Early this year a tremor that jolted the country had its epicentre in the hill districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts.
