Anti sexual harassment forum set up at RU


Seminar entitled “Say No to Sexual Harassment: Case Based Discussion Meeting”  under the project of “Building Institutional Capacity of selected four universities to prevent violence against women” held on Monday at the Law department of Rajshahi University (RU) to increase awareness against sexual harassment. The seminar was organised by the Bangladesh Jatiyo Mohila Ainjibi Somiti (BJMAS) in association with the UN WOMEN and CIDA.
Mohammad Hanif, project manager of Rajshahi division moderated the programme with Advocate Dilsad Ara Chunni in the chair.Professor Dr. Abdul Alim of Law department addressed the seminar as the chief guest. Professor Waliul Hasnat of Law Deptt, Professor Tanjila Yasmin of Botaniqal institute, Professor Faijar Rahman of Sociology spoke at the programme.
Speakers said, women are being sexually harassed everywhere even in the  universities, workplaces, entertainment spots, but culprits who are involved in committing this type of crime are remaining unpunished with the help of illegal influence.
They also said, universities have separate laws against sexual assault, but there is no execution of these laws. Most of the time crimes of the criminals are kept hidden.
They inspired the female students to be conscious of the law that has been made for their protection and safety and to take steps against sexual offenders so that they may not be spared.
After the seminar, a 15-member committee naming “An Anti-sexual Hasassment Forum of Rajshahi University” was formed. – RU Correspondent
