Army deployment not needed in Rangpur City polls: Ershad

Special Envoy to the Prime Minister and Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad has said there is no need for deployment of army in the December 21 Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Elections-2017.

“I have no doubt about holding of the RpCC polls in a free, fair, transparent and impartial manner,” Ershad said while talking to local journalists after reaching at his ‘Polli Nibas’ residence in the city this afternoon.

Ershad came to Rangpur on a five-day personal visit to cast his vote in the RpCC polls on December 21 and he will leave Rangpur for Dhaka on December 22 next, local JP leaders said.

Terming JP-nominated mayoral post candidate Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa as a very popular person, Ershad hoped that the voters will cast their votes for the symbol ‘Plough’ in favour of Mostafa in the RpCC polls to make him winner with huge margin.

Co-Chairman of JP Golam Mohammad Quader, local leaders of the district as well as city units of the party were present.

Earlier, leaders of Rangpur district and city units of JP welcomed Ershad with wreaths on his arrival at ‘Polli Nibas’ residence in the city from Syedpur airport after landing there from Dhaka.
