Army to supervise Padma Bridge’s approach road construction


Dhaka – The Bridge Division and Bangladesh Army’s Special Works Organization (SWO) on Monday signed a deal for supervising the consultancy works on Janjira and Mawa approach roads and service area-2 of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project.

Project Director Shafiqul Islam and Maj Gen Abu Syeed Md Masud signed the Tk 133.49 core three-year deal on behalf of their respective sides at Setu Bhaban in the city, said a PID handout.

Communication Minister Obaidul Quader, Army Chief General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan and Bridge Division secretary Khandakar Anwarul Islam were present at the agreement signing ceremony.

Under the deal, the SWO in association with Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) will act as a consultant of the construction of Jinjira approach roads and selected bridge-end facilities involving Tk 1098 core, Mawa approach roads and selected bridge-end facilities involving Tk 259.56 core and Service area-2 (Janjira side) involving Tk 286.21 core.

Later, Obaidul Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the construction work on the main bridge after Eid-ul-Azha.
