Arrested extremists are killed to save face, alleges BNP

Dhaka – The BNP has said that the government “resorts to instantaneous killing of the arrested terror-involved suspects” because it is apprehensive that their interrogation could lead to “revelation of facts embarrassing to the government”.BNP’s Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan on Saturday stated this at a press conference held to protest its Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman’s indictment in criminal offences that include plotting to kidnap the prime minister’s son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy.
“Everyday we hear of people killed in terror dens, cross-firing, this and that. But whoever is being caught is killed,” he said.
“People suspect that interrogation of these people could have led to revelation of facts that may be embarrassing to the government,” the BNP leader said to nail home his point.
Clarifying his party’s stand against terrorism, he said, “We are the most vocal party against terrorism. We want terrorism to be destroyed from the roots not just from the fringes,” he said.
‘Awami League indifferent’
Referring to hacking of Sylhet college student Khadiza Begum Nargis and the abduction attempt on another student, Nazrul asked, “If that’s the case, how are we going to live in this country?”
He said ruling Awami League feels that “nothing will happen to them”.
He urged everyone to unite against “this situation”. – Agencies
