New New – On Friday, April 14, 2017 the Georgia Chapter of the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) was established under the leadership of Dr. Rashid Malik as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Md. Ali Hossain as the President of the Executive Committee with 31 other Executive Board members and many rank and file members. The same day at 6:00 PM the ASAAL Georgia Chapter gathered at 6035 Peachtree Road, Building B, Atlanta, GA 30350 to endorse Democratic candidate Jon Osoff for Congress. Mr. Osoff is only 30, a young man, very progressive, a vibrant candidate who brings fresh ideas and new hope to the great people of the Congressional District of the State of Georgia. Georgia is in the South and is a red State which is under Republican control for many years. Even this congressional seat has been in the hands of the Republican Party for over 38 years. Now for the first time the Democrats have a great chance to win this seat.
Mr. Jon Ossoff arrived at 6:15 pm and embraced ASAAL Georgia Chapter leaders while signing autographs on ASAAL posters! He said, “he received many endorsements but appreciate’s the ASAAL endorsement the most, as he wants to represent every community in the house when elected.” “With the South Asians support we can win and stop Donald Trump harming Americans more!” he added.
On this auspicious occasion ASAAL National President Maf Misbah Uddin in New York said, “I have never seen a group so anxious to start work for a cause, for a movement so quick, so effective”. He then said, “With Jon Ossoff’s victory we can nulify horrible administration of Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s affect against the working class, middle class and every worker”.
On April 18, 2017 at the GA 6 Congressional election our candidate Jon Ossoff defeated all the 17 candidates by receiving 48.1% vote with the nearest vote getter receiving only 19%! But unfortunately in GA to win one needs 50%+1 vote. So now there will be a runoff election on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 Between Democrat Jon Ossoff (48.1%) and Republican Karen Handel (19.8%)! We can win this, ASAAL can win this for Jon Ossoff! We urged everyone to continue to knock the door, talk to the voter and call them to remind them to vote Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in the runoff election. Let America know, we are American too, we VOTE – Press release
