Ask Khaleda to account for burning people: Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the people to reject BNP for its violent agitations.
“BNP is synonymous with destruction, trouble and oppression of the nation,” she has said.
She was speaking while inaugurating railway projects through video conferencing on Saturday. She spoke about violence unleashed during a three-month blockade enforced by BNP and urged the people to hold its chief Khaleda Zia accountable for that.
Hours before the prime minister’s video conference, BNP Chairperson Khaleda campaigned for party-backed mayor candidate at Gulshan and Badda.
“Ask her (Khaleda) to give answer for the burning of people alive whenever she takes to the street,” Hasina said.
“By what right she burned people alive?” she asked.
“They (BNP) unleashed violence for three months. They killed people when in government and they continue doing the same when not in the government. We had a 92-day nightmare,” the prime minister said.
“I wish to ask Ms Zia what she achieved by doing these,” she said referring to the killings during the blockade.
She said the people of Bangladesh ‘never saw such horrible acts as was displayed by the BNP’.
“Their job is to bring misfortune for the people,” she added.
The BNP chairperson stayed in her office for three months after calling the blockade demanding snap polls under a neutral caretaker government.
She returned home on Apr 5 after attending hearings in a court.
“She had to appear before the court and then return with failure,” Hasina said.
“Khaleda and Jamaat-e-Islami always create miseries. Those who burn people alive do not have humanity. How can you think that they will work for the development of the country?” she asked.
She spoke with Ministers Mazibul Hoque and AHM Mustafa Kamal who were at Laksham and inaugurated two projects. She also laid foundation stone of another project.
She inaugurated Laksham-Chinki double lining project and remodelling of Chittagong Railway Station Yard.
She also laid the foundation stone for setting up and improvement of duel-gauge lines from Laksham-Akhaura.
Hasina said Awami League undertook 46 new railway projects with Tk 273.98 billion and cleared 39 revised projects with Tk 180.25 billion since it came to power in 2009.
Thirty four projects were completed while 41 are underway, according to the prime minister.
She also said a 20-year mega-plan to develop the railways has been undertaken. It would be implemented in three phases, she said. –
