ASP Masud withdrawn amid Birdem physicians’ demand


Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) ABM Masud Hossain of Dhaka was withdrawn on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in Sunday night’s Birdem incident.
Masud has been attached to the Police Headquarters amid a strong demand of the Birdem physicians, said sources at Police Headquarters.Birdem doctors went on an indefinite work abstention on Tuesday morning as some angry relatives of a patient physically assaulted some duty doctors and vandalised furniture and windowpanes on the 14th floor of the hospital after the patient died on Sunday night, alleging negligence of duty by the attending doctors.
ASP Masud, who is a close relative of the patient, and one personal officer of a former state minister were allegedly involved in the incident.
Medical services at the Birdem Hospital remained suspended for the second consecutive day on Wednesday due to doctors’ strike, causing sufferings to the patients However, the doctors called off the strike on Wednesday evening following the withdrawal of Masud. –UNB
